How it works

Subscriptions bill on different schedules, so the calculator first turns each one into a yearly cost: a weekly price × 52, a monthly price × 12, an every-three-months price × 4, and a yearly price as it is.

The monthly cost of each subscription is its yearly cost divided by 12, rounded to the nearest cent. That's why a weekly plan costs about 4.33 times its price each month rather than 4 times. The totals add up every subscription's monthly and yearly cost, and the five-year cost is the yearly total × 5, assuming prices stay the same.

The list below ranks your subscriptions from most to least expensive by yearly cost, with a bar showing each one's share of the total. Small prices on frequent billing cycles often climb higher than you'd expect.

Turn on What if I cancel? for any subscription to see what you'd save. The savings are that subscription's monthly and yearly cost, and its yearly cost × 5 over five years. The headline total keeps showing everything, so you can compare what you pay now with what you'd pay after cancelling.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions?

Turn them all into a yearly cost first: weekly prices are multiplied by 52, monthly by 12, every-three-months by 4, and yearly prices stay as they are. Dividing by 12 then gives a fair monthly average. That's exactly what this calculator does, so a cheap-looking weekly plan and a yearly plan can be compared side by side.

Why is the monthly total different from adding up the prices?

Because weekly, quarterly and yearly subscriptions don't charge exactly once a month. A weekly plan charges 52 times a year — about 4.33 times a month, not 4 — and a yearly plan is spread across 12 months. The monthly total is the average you pay over a whole year.

Is a yearly plan cheaper than paying monthly?

Often, yes — many services discount yearly plans. Enter the monthly price in one row and the yearly price in another to compare their yearly costs. A yearly plan only saves money if you'd keep the subscription for the full year, so it's best for the ones you use all the time.
